Mountain biking

We are close to some of the most amazing mountain biking trails in Southern Utah. If you are an avid mountain biker, then the Gooseberry Mesa trails is a must. Click here for a brochure on the Gooseberry Mesa trials.
The Gooseberry Mesa trails is about 6 miles from the lodge. To get there, head southeast on SR-59 until you see a sign (brown) for the Smithsonian Butte Backcountry Byway. Make the sharp left onto a graded dirt road that cuts across the fields heading to the edge of the mountains. Roughly a mile in you will see the sign for Gooseberry Mesa. Take the left and continue on until you reach the BLM sign (above).

On this route, rediscover the lands that explorer John Wesley Powell encountered in the late 1800s; the geography remains as impressive as it did in his day.

Striated cliffs, scenic canyons, and imposing bluffs make up some of the wonders you’ll pass as you drive the nine-mile byway.
